The
Republic of Peru Official languages:
Spanish and Quechua.
There also exist five other languages and more than fifty dialects in the Amazonas region.
Health requirements and vaccinations:
Travelers that visit the Amazonas should consider vaccinating against the following diseases:
typhoid, hepatitis A, cholera, yellow fever, polio and tetanus. Also, travelers should ask their
doctors about preventive measures against malaria. Travelers with cardiac problems or high blood
pressure should consult their doctor before traveling to the Amazonas, because during our journey
we will be traveling at altitudes of up to 2500 m or 7500 ft, we also advise travelers to be in
reasonable physical condition.
Climate:
Mild and cloudy, rains rarely in winter (the dry season), however during the summer
period (December/April) rains are frequent. Temperatures range from between 10°C
(50°F) and 25°C (77°F) during the day, falling to around 12°C (53.6°F) at night.
However, at altitudes over 3500m the temperature rarely rises above 0°C (32°F).
Geography:
The Amazonas region is located in the north of Peru, bordered in the north by
Ecuador, in the east by the regions of Loreto and San Martin, in the south by
San Martin and La Libertad and in the west by Cajamarca and Ecuador.
